Slotkin Statement on Senate Vote on War Powers Resolution
WASHINGTON –– U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (MI-08) released a statement following the Senate’s 51-45 vote today on the motion to proceed with debate on Senator Tim Kaine’s (D-VA) bipartisan War Powers Resolution. Kaine’s resolution includes language from Slotkin’s War Powers Resolution that passed the House with bipartisan support last month, and would require President Trump to seek Congressional authorization for the use of military force before taking the country into a protracted war with Iran.
“We can't take our eyes off the ball when it comes to national security,” Slotkin said. “It’s important we continue the conversation we started last month around War Powers, and make it clear that any President must get authorization from Congress before taking us into protracted war with Iran. I'm proud to see that Senator Kaine's bipartisan resolution, which includes key provisions of my War Powers Resolution, will be debated and receive a vote on the Senate floor this week.”
